Environmental Manager - EMEA (m/f/d)
As the Environmental Manager (m/f/d), you will work centrally as part of the Environmental, Health & Safety team and will work with a variety of stakeholders at all levels, both centrally and regionally, to develop, maintain and improve environmental management across GDC EMEA.
We are looking for someone to be based in the UK or Germany, working in a hybrid role with some travel throughout the UK and Europe.
This role is a maternity cover on a Fixed Term Contract (FTC), for approximately one year.
What you will do
- Lead and standardise the implementation of processes, systems and arrangements to assist with gaining ISO 14001 certification across EMEA
- Lead discussions with Design & Engineering and Construction to ensure that environmental risks and opportunities play an integral role in design considerations for new projects and enter scope for ISO 14001
- Ensure compliance with relevant environmental legislation frameworks across EMEA, both through establishing EMEA standards and by ensuring they are implemented and applied by competent workforce
- Implement objectives, KPIs and reporting formats so that the company has a comparable view of environmental compliance and performance across the business portfolio
- Work closely with Sustainability team, overseeing the Environmental Sustainability data reporting and quality assurance process; as well as support other Environmental Sustainability initiatives
- Oversee arrangements between Construction and Operational phases of a facility to ensure that environmental management is correctly transitioned from a project’s construction phase to a live operational facility
- Define and implement an EMEA wide waste management framework from design through operations with strong focus on e-waste and circular economy
- Lead, coach and functionally develop key stakeholders through structured, systematic and purposeful individual leadership and collaborative teamwork
- Support the business and key stakeholders during environmental incidents and act as an escalation point and subject matter expert where necessary
- Support Learning and Development Team to develop a suite of in-house training certifications for environmental management, which complement the business training framework and statutory trainings
What we are looking for
- Experience and knowledge to document, implement and certify ISO 14001
- Demonstrable ability to implement new frameworks, policies and guidelines/procedures
- Ideally environmental management experience within data center or large-scale critical infrastructure environments
- A recognised environmental qualification (degree level or equivalent)
- Proven track record of managing environmental functions across multiple countries
- Fluent in English and German, both written and orally would be preferable but is not essential (English is business language)
- Self-motivation and an ability to use one’s own initiative
- Outstanding relationship-builder and communicator, both internally and externally
- Excellent written and oral communication skills with an ability to articulate complex problems in a clear and methodical way
- Willing and able to travel within EMEA region (predominantly Europe)
