Design Manager (m/f/d)

As our new Design Manager (m/f/d) you will be a part of the Design & Engineering department, working on a portfolio of all types of Expansion, Upgrade and Fitout projects across the EMEA-region for our Data Centers.

You will drive a multi-disciplinary design delivery process acting as the primary contact to external design vendors, liaising with various internal stakeholders and consulting with senior members of our Design & Engineering (D&E) team to ensure best design decisions are made with careful assessment of risks and opportunities.

You will help develop and promote adoption of best practice process and procedures in both the design and engineering and wider delivery teams.

Your responsibilities

Design Delivery:

• Drive the end-to-end design delivery process starting from brief definition and internal alignment with various stakeholders, to appointment, management and review of external vendors that carry out design work for projects
• Work in conjunction with associated Project and Cost Managers for each project to ensure design delivery is progressing in line with projects brief, budget and programme throughout design and construction and hand over to Operations
• Undertake and/or supervise design reviews to ensure compliance with company design standards, local code requirements and the project brief. Proactively involve other members of Design and Engineering team or wider NTT team where required
• Ensure regular reporting of progress against agreed plans to senior members of Design and Engineering and the associated project managers
• Advise and ensure corrective action taken promptly to address any design issues
• Ensure quality and value for money received through third party appointments

Technical & Process Improvement:

• Undertake specialist reviews within scope of your technical expertise
• Help development of new tools, processes, and procedures for best practice design management
• Contribute driving innovation in design to improve reliability, constructability and ease of operation keeping a focus on sustainability as an overarching requirement in line with NTTs commitment to UN Sustainable Development Goals
• Develop and manage long term relationships with key third party design and equipment vendors
• Interface with peers within other departments within the region and with peers in D&E teams globally

Your profile

• University Degree in Architecture, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Building Engineering or equivalent
• Demonstratable experience in design of mission critical or similar critical M&E led industries (Pharmaceutical, Hospitals, Oil & Gas, Energy)
• Experience working within multi-disciplinary design teams, preferably in a leading role
• Experience in design consultant/client engineer/site engineer/contractor engineer roles
• International experience and outlook both in type of company (multi-national Consultant/ Contractor/Operator) and project experience (have worked on projects outside home country, ideally have lived outside home country for a period)
• Strategic thinking with structured and target oriented approach
• Strong quantitative and analytic skills
• Ability to work in multinational, interdisciplinary and culturally diverse teams
• Passion for start-up and ramp up environments
• Passion for listening to stakeholders and customers and a world-class service mentality
• Outstanding relationship-builder and communicator, both internally and externally
• Good written and oral communication skills in English. German language skills would be beneficial
