Solution Design Manager

As our new Solution Design Manager you will be part of the Technical Operations department, working on a portfolio of all types of Client Fit-out & operational in-life / asset replacement projects across the EMEA-region for our Data Centers.  On the client fit-out side, you will be responsible for the function which supports the commercial management teams for Suite & Cage fit outs specific to customer requirements.  On the in-life / asset replacement side this will support design aspects relating to the replacement or modification of key M&E infrastructure.

 

The role will include aspects of electrical design, mechanical design, structural/architectural design & ICT design (rack layouts, cage installs, containment, structured cabling etc) assessing the client requirements against the base build design and its limitations.  You will drive a multi-disciplinary design delivery process acting as the primary contact to external design vendors, liaising with various internal stakeholders and where necessary consulting with Design & Engineering (D&E) team to ensure best design decisions are made with careful assessment of risks and opportunities.

 

Your responsibilities

  • Drive/support end to end design delivery process starting from brief definition and internal alignment with various stakeholders, to appointment, management and review of external design vendors that carry out design work for fit out and in-life projects
  • Undertake and/or supervise design reviews to ensure compliance with company design standards, local code requirements and the project brief
  • Proactively involve other members of Design and Engineering team or interdepartmental collaboration where required
  • Work in conjunction with associated Project Managers for each project to ensure design delivery is progressing in line with projects brief, agreed budget and programme
  • Advise and ensure corrective action taken promptly to address any design issues
  • Undertake specialist reviews within scope of your technical expertise
  • Develop tools, processes, and procedures for best practice design management
  • Develop and manage long term relationships with key third party design vendors
  • Ensure quality and value for money received through third party appointments
  • Help develop and promote adoption of best practice process and procedures in both the design and engineering and wider construction teams

 

Your profile

  • University Degree in suitable Engineering Discipline or equivalent
  • Several years of professional experiences, ideally also in the data centres and/or similar high tech content M&E led industries (e.g. Pharmaceutical, Food&Drink manufacturing, Oil&Gas, Energy)
  • Experience working within multi-disciplinary design teams, preferably in a leading role
  • Experience in design consultant/client engineer/site engineer/contractor engineer roles
  • International experience and outlook both in type of company (multi-national Consultant/ Contractor/Operator)
  • Experience of managing people with a positive effect
  • Proficiency in MS Office (incl. MS Project)
  • Strategic thinking with structured and target oriented approach
  • Strong quantitative and analytic skills
  • Ability to work in multinational, interdisciplinary and culturally diverse teams
  • Passion for start-up and ramp up environments
  • Passion for listening to stakeholders and customers and a world-class service mentality
  • Outstanding relationship-builder and communicator, both internally and externally
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills in English. German and/or other languages would be beneficial
  • Full driving licence valid for use in the UK
  • Undergo full security checks to BS7858:2019
