Head of Energy Efficiency

As our new Head of Energy Efficiency you will join our new EMEA Technical Operations (Tech-Ops) team which is responsible for supporting the operational requirement of the EMEA region. Specifically, this role will be a member of the Central Engineering team within Tech-Ops and will report to the Director Engineering Tech-Ops EMEA.  The Head of Energy Efficiency is to reduce energy consumption by 5% per year over the next 2 years.  You will be required to, create an Energy Efficiency Community within GDC EMEA that will define, implement and deliver an effective energy usage monitoring and reduction plan, working closely with technical operational teams and external partners to ensure successful outcomes.


Your responsibilities

  • To identify, develop and implement new energy related opportunities
  • Help and support the regional team in creating energy business cases for infrastructure change
  • To motivate and train colleagues and customer organisations in good energy management practices
  • Promote energy efficiency and provide advice and support for the development of energy efficient practices
  • Develop and implement energy saving conservation measures with associated Return on Investment (ROI)
  • Develop and implement strategic briefs for energy efficiency design guides
  • Provide full feasibility studies of costed initiatives / projects to reduce energy usage
  • Assist in the project management and implementation of energy efficiency initiatives
  • Provide monitoring and verification through the full cycle of energy efficiency project to ensure ROI targets are achieved
  • Plan, set, monitor, and assist regional teams in achieving energy efficiency targets
  • Provide regular and ad hoc management reports on all aspects of energy performance.
  • Provide support and training to all regional teams on all aspects of Energy Efficiency where relevant
  • Keeps up to date with data centre developments in terms of new technology in close co-operation with our suppliers and maintenance providers and regularly share any information of this type with all regional and EMEA Tech-Ops teams
  • Attend any internal or external quality related audits and be able to demonstrate and provide evidence that NTT GDC EMEA Energy Efficiency standards are being adhered to
  • Undertake energy surveys throughout GDC EMEA to ensure system and energy optimisation
  • You will from time to time as, a subject matter expert, instruct other personnel in the implementation of technical & engineering standards.  They will bring to the attention of the Regional Operations Manager and NTT GDC EMEA Tech-Ops team any shortcomings in the knowledge of technical & engineering standards by personnel or of any deficiencies or abnormalities in the operating procedures
  • Leading or Playing a role during Scenario tests and Root Cause Analysis exercises
  • Carry out engineering investigations
  • You will have the ability to breaks down problems into smaller components, understands underlying issues, can simplify and process complex issues, understands the difference between critical details and unimportant facts appropriate and escalate when required with strong input and guidance around options / recommendations

  • You will apply clear/consistent performance standards to handle performance problems decisively and objectively and communicate in a manner that is direct but tactful and provides assistance to improve performance
  • Develop a positive team culture through achievement of results, teamwork, development, accountability, competency and professionalism
  • Demonstrate a passion for standardisation and operational excellence.
  • They will maintain a knowledge of the industry and regulatory rules, requirements and developments to ensure ongoing best practice


Your profile

  • Demonstrable experience working in mission critical environments within a large company, IT/Telecoms industry preferred
  • Experience in leading a technical operations management function
  • Experience in data centers or a similar environment is considered a significant advantage though not essential this will be a key consideration should multiple candidates be assessed for suitability
  • Major installation/construction project management experience
  • Subject matter experts understanding of Energy Efficiency governance principles
  • Experience of working in a European multi-cultural environment
  • Working Knowledge of Plan Do Check Act (Deming cycle) highly desirable
  • Awareness of Root Cause Analysis management frameworks highly desirable
  • Recognised European Health and Safety Qualification highly desirable
  • Proficient in English language both written and verbal
  • Second European language written and verbal desirable
  • Have a full driving license valid for use in the UK and your own means of transport

  • Comply with a full security checks to a minimum standard of BS7858:2019
