Data Center Technician (Remote Hands)

As our new Data Center Services Technician you will ensure all work activities carried out at the Data Center are in line with existing procedures and meet current EMEA standards as defined by the Central Data Center (DC) Services Team.  These activities will include, but not limited too, assisting and supporting other DC Services Technicians in carrying out their duties, supporting internal teams and customers when carrying out troubleshooting or installation work or responding to queries.


The DC Services Technician will be responsible for adhering to predefined requirements, supporting the successful completion of projects, in addition to performing quality assurance checks. Working together with the customer, 3rd parties and internal teams to ensure installations meet the requirements from both a visual and functional requirement, while adhering to existing standards and industry best practices.


All communication is carried out in English and local language, where appropriate.


Your responsibilities

  • Racking and unracking of hardware;
  • Installation and configuration of software as when required;
  • Acknowledge, action and resolve remote hands requests logged on the ticketing system;
  • Acknowledge, action and resolve any faults logged on the ticketing system;
  • Ability to perform commands following customer provided run books;
  • Performing troubleshooting activities and engaging with other internal and external teams when required;
  • Performing scheduled tasks;
  • Active monitoring of the DC environment and alerting any faults to the relevant internal teams;
  • Performing administration tasks as well as general housekeeping to maintain a clean and tidy environment;
  • Work closely with 3rd party service providers in order to ensure 24/7 coverage;
  • Point of contact for customers for all queries DC Services related, with the expectation of resolving the query or escalating when required;
  • Maintaining CMDB systems;
  • Supporting any asset management requirements;
  • Ensuring cable installations are carried out in accordance to existing standards;
  • Travel between various Data Centers, both regionally, within EMEA and globally, as and when required;
  • Supporting all relevant tasks as requested by management.
  • Maintaining and contributing to the security of information held by NTT GDC EMEA, process controls, customer information held or accessed in course of performing the role.
  • This role may require travel to other Data Centers within region or across Europe to support these activities.



Your profile

  • Educated to degree level or equivalent (preferably in an IT or related subject) or relevant work experience;
  • Ability to work both independently with little supervision as well as in a team environment;
  • A good understanding of how a data centre environment is operated from a facilities perspective;
  • Experience in dealing with remote hands and fault requests;
  • Experience in working with different types of IT hardware and networking;
  • Experience in installing and troubleshooting operating systems and other software;
  • Experience in creating and testing copper and fibre cabling;
  • Working in a customer focused environment;
  • Working in line with Best Practice in complex environments and within tight time constraints;
  • Ability to learn quickly and address issues as they arise within tight time constraints;
  • Ability to effectively communicate in English and Spanish;
  • A logical approach to problem solving;
  • Proactiveness in the approach to daily tasks;
  • Management of effective and timely problem resolution;
  • Attention to detail;
  • Must live less than 60 minutes away from data center.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills;
  • Familiarity with on call and working within a 24/7 environment;
  • Driver’s licences and dependable transportation.
