Environmental Specialist

As an Environmental Specialist you will support the Environmental Manager within the EMEA HSE Department focusing on developing and implementing the Environmental Management System according to ISO 14001 as well as ensuring Environmental compliance within the GDC EMEA business.

The Environmental Specialist will report into the EMEA EHS Director and will interact with central and local teams at all levels. The role will functionally report to the EMEA Environmental Manager.
 

Your Responsibilities 

• Advise local and central teams on environmental best practices and compliance with legal requirements, standards and environmentally related customers’ requests
• Implement plans and programs to mitigate environmental impacts and risks
• Support the implementation of ISO 14001 across EMEA sites
• Assist in Environmental document creation/translations (guidelines, procedures, working instructions).
• Support sites with the creation and maintenance of legal registers
• Assist with creation, coordination, and execution of internal training
• Assist during the execution of ISO 14001 or similar environmental related audits, preferably act as lead auditor for ISO 14001
• Drive waste management compliance and improvement based on waste hierarchy and NTT goals. This includes engaging with waste vendors, establishing site-specific processes or procedures in line with local requirements and market opportunities for waste management
• Address environmental aspects arising during construction phases ensuring compliance and guarantee a smooth transition to operational phase from environmental perspective serving as SME among the different stakeholders.
• Lead environmental protection campaigns or programs that promote collaboration, engagement, and environmental awareness (e.g. Environmental champions/representatives, waste reduction campaigns etc)

Your Profile

• Suitably qualified to fulfil the role and responsibilities in environmental management, either through demonstrable experience or qualification in environmental engineering or similar, preferably to an internationally recognised qualification (e.g. IEMA, qualification as environmental officer in Germany, etc.)
• Experience working in environmental management, environmental compliance (min. 5 years) within data centres or large-scale critical infrastructure environments an advantage
• Knowledge of environmental standards and legal requirements in one or more countries across EMEA
• Qualification to carry out ISO 14001 audits (ISO 14001 lead auditor) and any additional environmental qualification are of advantage
• Self-motivated and possess an ability to use one’s own initiative
• Good attention to detail and analytical skills
• Fluent in German and English, both written and orally
• Be able and willing to travel within EMEA region as and when required
• Able to undergo full security checks (this will remain in the advert)
